A Taste For Skinny Workout Schedule: Week of May 20

Let’s recap last week. Basically, I killed it. Went to the gym everyday or for a bike ride. The only change I made was lifting instead of sprints on Friday. My main reason for that was knowing that the weather was going to be gorgeous on Saturday, so I knew it wouldn’t contain any weights. I did my new leg workout twice, but didn’t try any new cardio. One thing at a time I guess! As for biking in the city, it is almost as scary as I thought it would be!! I was sweating within 2 minutes, because I was so stressed. I enjoyed it, but really had to focus since there are cars, pedestrians, other bikers, etc. out there. Monday night we met our friends at dinner and Saturday we took a nice long ride and went on the lake path for part of it. The lake path is a little too busy for me until you get further north, but it will all take a little getting used to. The most amazing part of biking is realizing how quickly you can get anywhere in the city. I definitely want to start biking places instead of taking the bus/el. Let’s move on to this week!

Sunday: Weights & cardio (I did my leg workout and walked on an incline wearing a weighted vest. The weighted vest is a pretty awesome way to burn a few more calories.)

Monday: Body strength (done)

Tuesday: Spin Off (I ended up skipping the gym this morning, because I had a stressful Monday and needed a little extra rest.)

Wednesday: Body strength

Thursday: Spin

Friday-Monday: Off since I’m going home for the holiday weekend. I’m definitely going to try and get a few walks in and make healthy decision 85% of the time. I haven’t been home since December, so I have to hit up my fav restaurants and summer ice cream spots.

Cleansing: Yay or Nay?

So I did my third cleanse last week. I’ve always had mixed feelings about the whole cleansing thing. I’ve heard about celebrities doing cleanses before big events, seen people do a juice cleanse for the new year, and I’ve even seen people do the lemon/honey/cayenne pepper cleanse. I always thought it was so silly, but I try not to judge anymore since I really believe that one can do whatever they want if it works for them.

Let’s rewind to why I did my first cleanse. I was killing it last year with meeting my goals, but I started to get worried after my birthday (Nov. 27) since I knew December was going to be tough with a weekend in NYC to eat, holiday parties, etc. I realized that I only had a span of 3 days where I didn’t have something going on, so I wanted to take advantage of it and be healthy. I wasn’t trying to lose 10 pounds in 3 days. All I wanted was to feel healthy and in control, because we all know how out of control we get during the holidays. I had Jared do some research and we decided to do 90% raw, fish for a good lean source of protein, and avoiding dairy, meat, and processed foods. A typical day is as follows:

6am: Juice (carrot, celery, apple, beet, ginger, kale)
9am: 2 tbsp Justin’s nut butter and celery (nut butter to keep my calorie intake up)
12pm: Juice and small meal (approximately 100 calories of tuna salad)
3pm: 2 tbsp Justin’s nut butter and celery
5pm: Juice
7pm: Dinner (large portion of vegetarian chili)
8pm: Dessert (1/2 brownie from Raw)

I knew I wouldn’t be able to stick with only juice since I just love eating way too much, so we picked something that was doable for me. Surprisingly, the juice is extremely filling and I’m able to do a normal workout just fine. I find myself a little hungry on the first day, but after that it’s super easy. The hardest part is telling people why you won’t go out for dinner or have that free cookie at work. Ok I lied, it’s also hard to give up my daily desserts (sugar free pudding, single piece of dark chocolate), so Jared was nice enough to check out Raw, a raw foods place in the market near us. I’ve had their tiramisu, brownie, and lemon bar. You’d be surprised how tasty they are. I’m going to recreate the lemon bar sometime soon.

So there you have it. I say yay to the cleanse! I did a 3 day cleanse in December, 5 day cleanse in January, and another 5 day cleanse last week. I find that it’s helpful every few months just to get me back on track.

A Taste For Skinny Workout Schedule: Week of May 13

I’ve got a busy week of plans aka eating out with Jared and friends (3 dinners, 1 lunch so far), so I’ve scheduled a workout everyday this week. My typical week includes 5-6 workouts and only classes, but lately I’ve been wanting to switch things up. Jared ran me through a painful awesome new leg workout on Saturday, so I’m going to incorporate that into my weekly workouts. I’m also in the process of adding different cardio into my routine, because I’ve been doing a lot of spin lately. I try to change things up before I get really tired of doing something, otherwise I’ll want to start taking days off.

Sunday: Cardio on my own (walked on the treadmill at an incline, tried out a new elliptical-like machine)

Monday: Body strength (done) & first bike ride of the season (excited and very nervous!!!)

Tuesday: Spin & leg workout

Wednesday: Body strength

Thursday: Spin

Friday: Spin & sprint

Saturday: Bike ride outside or spin & body strength

We have dinner plans tonight with Matt and Diana, and we just decided to ride our bikes to the restaurant since it’s such a gorgeous night. I’m super nervous since this is my first bike ride in the city of Chicago! Off we go, I hope I’m not stressed out the whole time!

Holla, I’m back!

It’s been 8 months since I last blogged. It seriously feels like yesterday since I think to myself “oh that would be a good blog post” at least a couple times a week. The real reason why I stopped blogging is because my goals/blogging/healthy living were taking over my life. I became too obsessive and wasn’t treating my goal as a lifestyle. To remind you, my goal is to lose 9 pounds or 9 inches. I am happy to tell you that I am 0.8 inches away from it as of a couple weeks ago! I only lost a couple pounds, which means I gained muscle. Yes, it’s been almost a year since I made this goal, but it was all about a lifestyle change, not killing myself to reach it in an unrealistic timeline and beating myself up. I also need you to know that I have had TONS of fun in the last few months as well. I had lots of birthday celebrations including my own in the fall, followed by Thanksgiving, Christmas, a 2 week vacation, St Patty’s Day, Baconfest (oh yes, I said baconfest) and many other eating/drinking related activities.

So here we go. I’m ready to get this blog started again!
