Holla, I’m back!

It’s been 8 months since I last blogged. It seriously feels like yesterday since I think to myself “oh that would be a good blog post” at least a couple times a week. The real reason why I stopped blogging is because my goals/blogging/healthy living were taking over my life. I became too obsessive and wasn’t treating my goal as a lifestyle. To remind you, my goal is to lose 9 pounds or 9 inches. I am happy to tell you that I am 0.8 inches away from it as of a couple weeks ago! I only lost a couple pounds, which means I gained muscle. Yes, it’s been almost a year since I made this goal, but it was all about a lifestyle change, not killing myself to reach it in an unrealistic timeline and beating myself up. I also need you to know that I have had TONS of fun in the last few months as well. I had lots of birthday celebrations including my own in the fall, followed by Thanksgiving, Christmas, a 2 week vacation, St Patty’s Day, Baconfest (oh yes, I said baconfest) and many other eating/drinking related activities.

So here we go. I’m ready to get this blog started again!

feelin good

It’s been a great week for being healthy! It feels really good since I’ve had lots of splurging the past few weeks. Today made 5 days in a row of eating healthy and exercising. I was supposed to take Body Pump this morning, but was in the mood to zone out and take spin. It was nice to change things up with a new instructor and she made it a 60 min class instead of the usual 45 min. With all this being healthy I’m happy to say tonight was an amazing splurge night. Jared and I went to dinner at Next Restaurant with a few of our friends. We sat at the kitchen table and ate around 12 courses. The menu this time was Tour of Thailand, so it wasn’t heavy like the Paris 1906 menu (butter, butter, and more butter for French cuisine, right?). We also got 1 non-alcoholic drink pairing and stopped by The Aviary after dinner. The juices were to die for. Here’s a teaser…one of everyone’s fav courses, the coconut, corn, egg, and licorice dessert. Lots more to come when I get a chance to write about it!

sharing my meal and workout schedule

I created a new section of my blog labeled calendar in the main nav. Here I will share my planned workouts, meals, and splurges for the week to better help me reach my goals. I will also document how I change my schedule when something unexpected comes up (last minute happy hour or dinner out). Hopefully this motivates you to plan out your schedule since we can’t have it all!

it’s getting easier

So I had my planned girls night and my unplanned night out all in the same night which was followed by 2 days of missing planned workouts because of my heels. I could have totally gone down hill since I had lunch plans yesterday, cake at work yesterday and today, and we’re having friends over for dinner tonight. I stayed strong and used every ounce of will power to eat a beet salad at Piccolo Sogno yesterday for lunch. Yes, beets are a favorite of mine, but Piccolo also has my favorite bread and pasta dishes so trust me that was a toughy. And cake!??! I LOVE cake, but I didn’t even look at it. I definitely think it’s getting easier to stick to my plan and still have splurges. I just have to remind myself which splurges are most important since I can’t have it all. This morning I made it to body pump and worked it real hard. I cringed when I got to class and saw who the sub was. Her name is Maria and she has a rock hard body. I never get a chance to take her classes, but love when she subs. I always seem to work a tiny bit harder with her. Tonight we’re having friends over for dinner so I’ll be splurging on some wine, but we’re doing grilled chicken, veggies, and fruit to keep it super healthy! Since I’ve killed it with being healthy Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (fingers crossed I don’t do anything crazy tonight) I’ll be splurging on something tomorrow, just not sure what!

short term goal follow up

It’s been 10 days since I shared my latest short term goal and I’ve got lots of progress to share. Here are the goals I set:

– Hitting the gym 9 out of the next 11 days (I’ve already gone 8 straight since my Maine vacation so I might need a day or two rest)

I was able to go to the gym every single day since I set this goal meaning I haven’t missed a day since Sunday, July 10. I even had one day with double workouts, not bad!

– Keep the drinking to a minimum (no binge drinking until the big day, only red wine and keep it reasonable)

I kept drinking to a minimum for sure. Most days I skipped it altogether, 2 days I maxed out around 10 ounces, and I had a splurge last night for girls night.

– 1 dessert or special sweet treat on Saturday

I skipped dessert when Jared and I went to Sunda last Saturday for dinner. I decided I’d rather have salted caramel Pinkberry since it was about 100 degrees out. I also came home and made a couple smores, but that isn’t even close to a real dessert (i.e. think chocolate souffle with ice cream). You all know about my extra splurge, but hey I’m human.

This week was also a measure week. I try to measure myself every 2 weeks unless I’m on vacation or have a super busy week. I haven’t had a chance to measure since right before our Maine vacation, so I had no idea what to expect. I knew I had been working out hard, but also drinking and eating out more than usual.

Since I haven’t shared much about my measuring let me give you a quick summary.

– I measure my arms, legs, waist, and hips
– My first week of measuring was January 3, 2011
– My total inches for that first week were 131.8125
– My goal was to lose 9 inches or 9 pounds (whatever comes first)
– I turned my goal into 3 tiers (tier 1 – 123lbs or 128.68in, tier 2 – 120lbs or 125.54, and tier 1 – 117lbs or 122.4 in)
– Each tier I get a reward (tier 1 – dinner at GT Fish & Oyster, tier 2 – spa day or new handbag, tier 3 – weekend trip of my choice, VEGAS duh)
– I just hit tier 2 last night – I measured in at 124.75
– I need to maintain tier 2 for one week before I get my reward
– I’m not sure what I want since all I can think about is losing 2.35 more inches so I can go to Vegas!
